Hello and welcome to the fourth edition of Knowledge Graph & Data Mesh Metaverse. Here we share interesting articles about this world (and a little Web3 too). We share lots of content via our Discord channel so thought we’d share the love and provide a regular update as to what’s been floating our boats.
A data mesh thesis
Data Engineer, Carlos Grande, has written this fabulous thesis on data mesh. His goal is to provide more clarity about the subject. Focusing on the principles, architecture, implementation, and use cases, Carlos has gathered information, theory, and examples from the Data Mesh Learning Community and a range of expert authors.
An argument for RDF – Getting prepared for the fight
This article by Jan Voskuil talks about the fact that resistance to RDF is beginning to turn into a fight, signs that RDF will win. In preparation for the fight, Jan lays out the core argument for RDF into three parts. Inheritance, compostability, and introspection, explaining their meaning and providing real-world examples.
Your best friend out of a box – AI-enabled apps for competitive advantage
This great article talks about how AI-enabled applications are the new source of competitive advantage. It looks at intelligent data sources, ML-models serving intelligent data to applications. Intelligent business logic, ML capabilities built into the application or hardware, think Alexa. Finally, it talks about intelligent data connectedness, using knowledge graphs to make meaningful connections between datasets to turn data into knowledge.

Graph market forecast huge growth
Emergen Research released a forecast for the graph database market and predicts a revenue CAGR of 21.9% until 2030, with the market set to be worth $11.25 billion, from $1.59 billion in 2020. AI demand is expected to be a major factor, but interestingly the increasing demand for flexible online schema design is also a driver.
DFRNT – Semantic knowledge graphs to help changemakers make an impact
Our star Terminator, Philippe Höij, has recently launched an ambitious project to help changemakers drive intentional change. DFRNT is seeking people who want to make a difference to society and the world to collaboratively share knowledge. The goal is to make an impact on huge and complex issues such as climate change, healthcare, economic equality, and racism. Check out DFRNT and signup to get involved to drive change.

What is Web3? Buzzword or huge potential?
Babbage, a weekly podcast from the Economist, focuses this week on the question, what is Web3? Will it reinvent cyberspace or is it just another buzzword? Senior Editor for the Economist, Kenneth Cukier, hosts the podcast which features a wide range of interviews and interesting takes on Web3.
Data mesh vs data fabric – who wins?
This guest post on Computer Weekly looks at data mesh vs data fabric. Such as social media works these days, there has to be a comparison, who is the greatest? It’s not like that in reality, the two principles actually complement each other. This article is quite a nice take on the two ideas and keeps things simple.
Zigzag – A game for shape rotators
This doesn’t really fit with the metaverse theme, but with all the talk about Shape Rotators vs Wordcels, we thought we’d include it. It has been suggested that Shape Rotators are good at Zigzag and Wordcels are not. It’s a simple game, you have to decide if the zigzag shape goes left or right as it spins and changes direction. As a side note, this game has highlighted the competitive nature of some of the Terminators.
